Chance Encounter

Posted on 28. Mar, 2008 by Mark Rogers in Doggies, Mutts, Rhodesian Ridgeback

I had a shoot last week with a great dog named Chance. He’s a Rhodesian Ridgback mix who lives with his dad in the aptly named Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. Chance is a rescue dog from the Milo foundation and boy did he land in a great home.
Chance loves his toys but is fairly picky about where he plays with him. Inside it’s pretty much anything goes but outside it’s the bouncing green ball or nothing at all. Chance has an extraordinarily expressive face and can do things with his eyebrows that would pretty much make anybody give him anything. My favorite excerpts are below

Pure Chance, Pure Joy

Chance in mid air

I love the nose freckle

This is the eyebrow thing I mentioned before. May I have a steak, please?

Chances eyes

Smile and say Chance

The end

Chance looks so much like my dog Fergie it is uncanny!

The third image down with his head on his paws looks EXACTLY like her. It’s such a trip.

She even has the same little white chin. Same black claws, same eyeliner. Wow.

And imagine living with a dog who gives you that look all the time. When I first got her I thought she was always sad, now I know that it’s just her normal look.

Except of course when she is outside playing with HER green ball, then she looks just as maniacal as Chance.

He is darling! Thanks for sharing Mark!

    Wow,

Can I say Mark you did an awesome job capturing Chance’s personality (and does he ever have a personality) and spirit. I love all the photo’s so much I am having a hard time deciding which one’s to print.

Chance had such a good time with you and his best friend Petunia can’t wait for her turn.

    Thanks for the posting.

My pleasure, Bill. Chance made it pretty easy. He and his dad are both great guys.

Chance looks like a great dog to photograph. last week my cam friends and i went to the park to just take some random pics because we were board, and it was a nice day. i ended up catching some amazing shots of a elderly man and his dog walking and playing. Before and pictures were taken i asked if was ok with the owner and the only responce he had was that he wanted to see all of the pictures of his dog and he even asked how much it would cost for him to get copys of the photos. i couldnt charge him because i felt weird about it so i told him they would be free and he almost cryed. about a week later i took to pictures to the man and i asked where his dog was and he told me that the day i seen them playing in the park was the last time she played, and that the photos took would be the last ones ever. he said that the vet had told him to take max to his favorite place because he didnt have long to live. the cancer had set in really really bad and he would be suprised if he made it untill next year. i felt so bad yet so good all at the same time because i knew he had lost his best friend but i also knew that i was the one who took those pics and will be the one to keep his spirt alive and kicking. the man also told me that when max passed away he made a small box and named it “my wonderful”. he said all of the pictures that i had taken would be in that box and he would always keep it safe from any kind of harm. it made me feel really good about taking pictures of animals and just seing chances pictures sparked my memory and made me tear up. thankyou so much for taking these pictures. i do have to say they are my favorite ones.
