Satchel and Bingo

Satchel and Bingo

One of the best things about being a pet photographer is the completely serendipitous nature of each and every shoot. You know where you’re going to be and you know who’s going to be there but everything else that happens is pretty much anyone’s best guess. My latest My Mutt shoot was no exception other than the unexpected happened even before the camera came out: I got fed breakfast. And, we’re not talking grapenuts and milk. This was a real breakfast with eggs, grits (real ones) and fresh strawberries. Yum!  I think I’ll make it part of my contracts from now on.

After breakfast, it was time for shoot proper. Satchel and Bingo, the stars of the day, are both pitbulls and  rescuees from Animal Friends Rescue Project. Satchel, of course, is named after the great Satchel Page which is fitting because he loves playing ball (so does bingo). I was warned that Satchel could be sort of serious in front of the camera but his inner ham came out about 15 minutes into the shoot and we ended up with a lot of classic, happy pitbull grin shots. Bingo, on the other hand, stayed  stoic and serious but still made it look good. Bingo and Satchel, your My Mutt poster choice awaits. Linda, thanks again for the breakfast.

  1. Photo Caption Contest: Walk on Water? - 23. Jun, 2009

[...] A couple of weeks back I photographed two pitbulls for a poster to be hung in a local pet supply store. I wanted to try to get them both in one shot but after 45 minutes I was about to give up when their mom got their attention by throwing their favorite toy into the backyard pond. The result was this classic dog moment which I present to you, dogsters, for your captioning pleasure. Just submit your captions by commenting on this post. (see the rest of their shots here) [...]
