He is so tolerant and patient when dad dresses him for yet another seasonal photo shoot and, between you and me, I think he actually likes it. This year we tried our very first St Paddy’s day shoot and got the Biz’s green on. I’m thinking that on top of the Corgi and Jack Russell, Biz may have a wee bit o’ Leprechaun in the old bloodline. I had my first published magazine cover shot with the San Francisco SPCA’s award-winning Our Animals quarterly. Many heartfelt thanks to Paul Glassner, the editor of said publication for giving me a shot at this and being such a good mentor.The subject, Nikah, is an adorable Chi-terrier mix that I met at the SPCA during the Small-dog class we took our own terrier mix to. Congrats, Nikah. You’re a star!

I photograph a lot of dogs (and cats — but reconciling that with this blog title is for another post entirely) and when you actually catch one grinning it can be a real rush. This week’s star is a miniature dalmatian named Junior. I had no idea there was such a breed as a miniature dalmatian until I met Junior but consider me smitten. He’s completely mellow, terribly cute and extremely photogenic

Bucky’s a strapping 1 1/2 year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel whose mom, Djuna Woods, is a realtor down on the peninsula who specializes in finding and selling homes for dog owners. Check out Djuna’s excellent blog and website if you’re interested in finding a dog-friendly home want to learn about places to take your pooch for a walk or hike in the bay area or just want to pick up some general dog-owning tips. Djuna’s a wealth of knowledge.

Bucky loves the beach and is a fan of tennis balls and birds (mainly birds) You can see some shots from our walk below as well as all the photos from the day here.

Anyone who’s shopped or walked by any of the Pet Food Express Stores in the Bay area has seen the My Mutt posters they have hanging in the shop and in the windows. They’re of dogs and cats adopted from various rescue groups. Owners make a donation to Pet Food Express in the name of their pet and the rescue group or shelter where they found them and Pet Food Express covers the costs of photography and poster production.
It’s a great way to support the rescue groups and shelters out there that have helped thousands of animals find their forever homes.

I was recently asked by Pet Food Express to be  a photographer for this wonderful program and I couldn’t be more honored.

This week I want to highlight my first shoot which featured a nice old guy named Jake and his compadre, Badger who both belong to one of the founding members of Rocket Dog Rescue.
