Ho, ho, ho! The onslaught of holiday-card photo sessions continues. I will be appearing at everyone’s favorite breed-specific get-together (The San Francisco Chihuahua Meet-up) on Sunday, October 5th from noon to 2 PM at Stern Grove/Pine Lake Dog Park. These will be free, 10-minute mini-sessions. You have the option of buying prints from my website or purchasing a CD with 5 or more full-resolution files to make your own cards.

Holiday Photo Sessions for Pets at Under One Roof in San Francisco

If you’re like me you probably get really annoyed when the holiday decorations started showing up in the stores right after Halloween. Well, I’m one-upping them bigtime and am promoting holiday card sessions for pets less than a month after Labor Day (at least I waited until the first day of fall)

In all seriousness, I’ve gotten a remarkable number of requests already from folks who want to get a jump on things and have their annual family Christmas and holiday cards all ready to go before the season hits. In honor of all the early bird planners out there I’ve got two sessions already lined up down at Under One Roof in the Castro. The events are being held on Saturday, October 11th and Saturday November 15th. I’ll be at the store on both days from 11 AM – 4 PM

The Cost is $65 for a 15-minute sitting with a portion benefitting Under One Roof. You can choose between two 5×7 prints of your choice or a CD of up to 5 of your favorite proofs.

San Francisco Pet Photography Event Announcement

The furry fall pet photo season is upon us and I’m kicking it off with the 2nd annual Dogtoberfest up at Upper Douglass dog park on October 4th from 11AM-2 PM. The good folks of Friends of Upper Douglass Dog Park (FUDDP) have put this event on every year now to raise funds for improving the park. Last year they made enough to put in a water fountain and the goal this year is to pay for completion of fencing so the park is completely enclosed.

I’m donating a Pampered Pooch/Fancy Cat photo session to the silent auction and also serving as official pet photographer at the event. I’ll be offering free mini sessions for attending pets — that’s right, no session fee. You just pay a la carte for prints or have the option of purchasing a CD of 5 or more high-resolution files for $50 plus tax that you can use to make your own prints or holiday cards.

Under One Roof Photo Event

Last Saturday I held my first monthly photo event down at Under One Roof. We promoted it as being for pets and kids but the vast majority of the folks that signed up for it brought dogs. It was a lot of fun. The folks at the store are great and pretty much rearranged the space as I needed it and let me use any of the merchandise I wanted to for props. Most of the clients opted for the pseudo-studio setting with either a leather bench or red dog bed (and in one case, a pink feather boa)

Out of this shoot came two of my favorite shots of the year – a lovely Boston Terrier named Girlie Sue and a Pomeranian named Hershey and his colleague, Missy (a chihuahua mix). See it and many other of my favorites down below

Dozens of Dachshunds

For those of you unfamiliar with the dog scene in San Francisco there’s quite a few breed-specific groups that meet up in the cities parks on a regular basis. The barrier to entry is somewhat dependent upon the group. Some will allow dogs who aren’t purebred, others won’t.

Those of you who’ve read my blog in the past know that I attend the Chihuahua group that meets at Stern Grove/Pine Lake Park the first Sunday of the month (yep, there’s one this weekend) but I also recently went to my first Dachshund meet up down at the ever-popular Crissy Field. It was a complete hoot. They bring food for the owners and–you guessed it–they grill hotdogs. There were doxies of all shapes and sizes: long-hair, wire-hair, piebald, red, brindled — you name it. Upcoming Pet Photography Event in San Francisco on May 31st, 2008

Very exciting news. On Saturday May 31st I’m going to be at Under One Roof in the Castro photographing dogs, cats, kids and any combination of the three. They just opened this new store and the space is incredible — literally 3X the size of the old one across the street. For those of you who don’t know, UOR is an amazing organization who’s mission is to raise funds for agencies providing HIV/AIDS education and support services.

This event is a unique father’s day gift opportunity so those of you in the city who haven’t figured out what to get pet-lover dad should definitely come on by between 11AM – 2PM to

Happy Birthday, San Francisco SPCA

Last weekend the San Francisco SPCA celebrated its 140th anniversary and I was asked to photograph it for them (I tried to get past the irony that they shared their anniversary date with the 1906 earthquake)

It kicked off on Friday with speeches by SFSPCA president Jan McHugh-Smith, Assmemblyman Mark Leno and others along with appearances by the city’s police and fire chiefs and the San Francisco Mounted Police Unit.

Saturday and Sunday things moved inside where there were booths and demos for the Hearing Dog program, agility classes and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) program.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the San Francisco Chihuahua meetup at Stern Grove – Pine Lake Park. This is not to be confused with the venerable Chihuahua Cha Cha that’s still held up at Corona Heights but, boy, this is one well-attended event. There were easily 75 small dogs there along with their owners and an onsite concession with tiny costumes and dog-treats provided by a local dog boutique. Needless to say, the cuteness factor was extremely high. You can see all the best shots I took in an online gallery but I’ve taken the liberty of posting my faves below…

Project Homeless Connect #21

Last week I attended my 3rd Homeless Connect event at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. I have to say that it’s still amazing to me how smoothly these things go. Over 2500 clients came through this time and the thing just runs like clockwork. For this PHC I focused on the outdoor services – primarily the clinic set up by the kind folks at VET SOS who provide veterinary care for the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans
