Warning…major, major cute puppy alert here. You’d think that when you’re around puppies a lot eventually the awwww-factor would diminish. Actually, it goes the other way. Last Friday was no exception when I was introduced to Jasper, an adorable muttly mix recently rescued through Rocket Dog. Jasper’s mom, Katherine Taylor, is a BodyTalk practitioner in San Francisco specializing in energy medicine for pets and people. I’ll tell you what: She’s got a whole lot of energy on her hands with young Jasper who had a sandy blast down on Ocean Beach for his very first professional photo shoot. Check him out..

Galahad & Scarlett

I met a lovely pair of kitties this past weekend: Galahad and Scarlett. Galahad’s a wee bit shy and for the first 30 minutes or so he watched me warily and safely from beneath a kitchen table behind a chair (see below). Scarlett took to the camera almost immediately (and who wouldn’t with baby blues like those) and I think may have shot at doing color contact commercials.

One of the best parts of this job is discovering new parts of your own city. My latest My Mutt poster shoot introduced me to McLaren park over in Portola. Wow, what a place. Amazing views of the city and acreas of green and trees. The star of the shoot was a lovely Aussie Shepherd mix named Cassidy who, after some initial shyness, warmed right up and showed us the way through this natural stomping ground. I had some serious dog-grin Karma this weekend because Cassidy was my second shoot in a row with a wonderful, relaxed dog smile. Cassidy, you done good. Everyone help us pick out your favorite shot for poster stardom.

Pua, you’re a true Beauta

When I talked to Pua’s owner a few weeks ago I had a feeling I was going to meet a special dog for this My Mutt poster shoot. I was not disappointed: Pua is truly great pup and boy did she land in the right household. They love her and the feeling is very mutual — They’re never out of her sight.

Pua’s a sweet, beautiful brown-eyed Shepherd mix — seems like there might be a bit of lab, dobie and even border collie in there for good measure. Whatever it is, she loves people, the water and the camera. We had our shoot down at Crissy Field on a classic San Francisco winter day. This is going to be one tough choice for a poster. Everyone, cast your votes…

Merry Mastiff

I don’t know about you but I think Mastiffs just rock. The term gentle giant doesn’t even begin to describe them but throw in two of them weighing in at almost 400 pounds combined and you have a whole lot of friendly dog in one place.

I met Easy and his mom, Tori last weekend down at Stern Grove and we had a great session with them and their human sister who clocks in at 2 years and 35 pounds. For privacy reasons you won’t see her here but let’s just say that the three of them were completely adorable together

Losang & Deva

It’s funny. I love photographing cats but I do go through long dry periods of catlessness. Fortunately, that ended this week with multiple feline encounters. On Monday I photographed two kitties, Losang and Deva, for a Pet Food Express My Mutt poster and then had another cat session yesterday (results to be seen later)

We’re still not sure whether it’s going to be two separate posters of Losang and Deva or one of both. Anyone who’s reading this lend a hand and let us know what you think, which is your favorite?

Sonora

Not only do I have a weakness for senior dogs but I’m a real sucker for German Shepherds (our last dog was a GSD and she ruled the house for almost 15 years). Introduce me to an older Shepherd and I’m hopeless.

Well, I was really hopeless last Friday when I met Sonora up at Lake Temescal in the East Bay. She’s a beautiful girl who’s almost 13 and represents everything I love about Shepherds: she’s loyal and watchful over her family (including her 2 1/2 year old sister), she’s smarter than most people and she’s delightfully neurotic and worried about everything.

Sonora, you did great, old girl. It was my pleasure working with you.

Fergus the Border Terrier

As a pet photographer you occasionally encounter a really brutal occupational hazard — the irresistible urge to take your subject home with you. I had just such an enounter this week with a nice little gent named Fergus. Fergus is a Border Terrier (from the England-Scotland border) and he’s the first of his kind that I’ve met in person. I hope he’s not the last because they are about the cutest breed I’ve ever seen.

I met Ricky last weekend at another photo shoot I held at Under One Roof. When I got there I was a bit concerned because the cool leather bench I usually have as a prop had been sold and all they had left were pink ones. No need to worry because Ricky looked pretty in pink, too. After the inside shoot we grabbed a few shots at Ricky’s nearby home with his favorite toy. Ahhh, a boy and his frog.
