Happy Cinqo de Mayo from a Cat with a Cuervo Habit

Sometimes the stars just align perfectly for a photo shoot and my session with a cat named Diesel last week was just such a time. Turns out that other than having a completely cool name, Diesel also has a fairly unique favorite hang-out spot in his apartment that just couldn’t be more fitting for showcasing today’s celebration of Cinqo de Mayo. Yep, this Kitty’s number one bed is an old Jose Cuervo Margarita mix box. He just loves it. Well, Diesel, I have a feeling the world will love you for it today as well.

Sriracha: A Cat with a Saucy Name

I’ve been having a nice run of cat sessions lately (wait ’til you see my special Cinqo de Mayo post tomorrow). Last week, I went to photograph a cat named Dylan (his dad is a major Bobby D fan) for a My Mutt session over near Golden Gate Park. I was told Dylan was a little skittish when it came to doorbells so I called before I got there to avoid any kitty drama. Unfortunately, the repairman who showed up and rang the bell right when arrived hadn’t gotten the memo. As a result, Dylan was an extremely unhappy camper and in no mood for the pet paparazzi. Fortunately, his housemate, Sriracha (not sure if he was named after the town in Thailand or the sauce), was there to save the day. As a pinch hitter, he did just fine, though. Check him out…

Finn Again…and Again

I met Finn, the Catster photo contest winner from last year this week and let’s just say that a star is born. Finn has serious presence…and he knows it. Being extremely photogenic and slightly cross-eyed doesn’t hurt one bit either. So folks, meet Finn in all his glory. I think you’ll be seeing more of him.

Photographing kittens is a relative rarity for me. Fewer folks get their cats photographed than dogs in the first place so the chance to immortalize a baby cat doesn’t come that often (something I’d like to fix because I actually really like doing it).

So, wasn’t it a pleasant surprise to learn that one of my first shoots of the year involved a kitten. Since this is for a magazine cover I can’t be a spoiler and show many out takes but there are just enough to tide you over until the real deal comes out. And, yes, it does involve a veterinary office…

Franklin

I’ve had a welcome run of kitty sessions in the last few weeks and my most recent was with a handsome guy named Franklin. Franklin’s full name is Franklin Winston (named after both FDR and Churchill) and I think he may have inherited our 32nd president’s eyes — he has the most amazing set of blue peepers I’ve seen in a while. Franklin was adopted from the San Francisco SPCA almost a year ago and has landed himself in a fabulous forever home with people who adore him. Franklin, get ready for your close-up.
