Anyone who follows me on Twitter knows that earlier this week I had a shoot scheduled with a dog/cat pair for a local magazine cover. Most pet photographers know that this is a relative rarity. Yes, there are many cats and dogs that live in homes together but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can put them in the same space right next to each other while they look at the camera. This is why animal trainers in the entertainment biz make the big bucks: overriding Mother Nature is not for the faint of heart.

So, I arrive at a gorgeous, painstakingly restored classic Victorian San Francisco home with mouthwatering natural light and a beautful white leather bench to put the talent on. Subtext: I am psyched. Separately, I meet the dog, Tess–A beautiful 15-year old lab mix with brown eyes that melt your heart with every look–and Monkey, a sweet kitty with the cutest black nose I’ve ever seen.

And then we tried to put them next to each other on the bench… (p.s. No Animals were harmed or humans scratched–at least not badly–during this shoot)

Don’t worry, we salvaged things and got lots of great individual shots of Tess and Monkey that will be revealed on this blog in the next few days…
