Ike, the handsome fellow below, is one of 7 San Francisco Sheriff’s Office K-9s I worked with a few months back to help raise awareness for the Cover Your K-9 fund which helps provide California K-9s like Ike with custom bullet-proof vests. Check him out.

I also have a blog programming note. Since I started blogging the photo of the day I’ve gotten some feedback that it would be more practical to provide a weekly summary on the blog since I already post the shots individually on Facebook. Great input, folks. So, that’s what I’ll be doing every Monday. Today’s list just covers the last three days but starting next Monday, I’ll post the week’s prior shots in a neat little package. Thanks for the input, folks and please let me know if you have any other ideas or requests

Gino Hits Ocean Beach

The other morning I got to do two of my favorite things at the same time: hang out on a beach and hang out with e German Shepherd. Gino, a handsome black GS mix was recently adopted and his new family celebrated by making a donation to Rocket Dog Rescue and memorializing Gino with a My Mutt Poster at Pet Food Express. We decided to meet at Ocean Beach just a few blocks from Gino’s new home on a beautiful San Francisco spring morning. Gypsy Belle – German Shepherdess

I almost had to postpone my photo session with Gypsy Belle last week because the Bay Bridge was still closed for repairs and we were supposed to meet in the East Bay. Fortunately it re-opened on shoot day and not only did I have almost no traffic because everyone left their cars at home but it turned out to be one of the most beautiful days of fall 2009. Fitting weather for a gorgeous girl like Gypsy. Check her out…

Molly and Chester: Quite the Pair

Big dog, small dog combos are always a treat — especially when the little guy is the boss and brains of the outfit. Meet Chester and Molly, soon-to-be My Mutt stars. Molly is a German Shepherd with the coolest floppy ear of all time, Chester a senior Pekingese (13 1/2 years young) who runs the show. Check ‘em out.

Shots of the Day – Best Buddies

Regular readers may recognize the two dogs in this post from an earlier one this year. Eva and Maya are two German Shepherds I photographed for a My Mutt poster a few months back. We decided to add a few more shots to the mix and met again last week for a session in a lovely backyard in Alameda. I went through the shots today and just keep coming back again and again to these three below. They just make me think of good friends and also remind me how much I love Shepherds and how much I miss ourGSD, Heidi.

My German Shepherd streak continued this week but with a twist–this time there was a Poodle involved, too. This latest My Mutt poster shoot included Eva and Maya, two inseparable German Shepherds and a Standard Poodle named Raven who hangs out with them on a regular basis. We did the shoot on Baker Beach toward the end of the day on a classic San Francisco summer afternoon. The dogs adore the beach and I don’t think there was a square inch of non-tramped sand anywhere to be seen by the time they were done. The German Shepherd fest continues. I had the chance to photograph a trio of GSDs for a My Mutt poster up in Concord, California last week. Buddy, Chivita and Sarge are 9, 7 and 5 respectively and each one of them makes a distinct impression. Buddy’s the vocal one in the group and he pretty much talked the entire time I was there (if you’ve ever had a Shepherd you know what I’m saying here). Chivita’s the sweetheart and Sarge is the aptly named patroller (he didn’t like me being outside his perimeter at all). Enjoy your poster options, guys. Let me know what you think.

Griffin the German Shepherd

This is a special post for me. Griffin, a future My Mutt poster star, is a German Shephered rescued by Grateful Dogs and fostered/adopted by a a special friend in SF who I first met 10 years ago when she walked our German Shepherd, Heidi. She was one of three people on the planet (including me and my wife) who Heidi would allow in the house…alive that is and she’ll always have a place in our hearts for being so good to us and our much-loved but very neurotic Heidi. Anyway, on to Griffin. He was the third shepherd or shepherd mix I photographed last week and, like Dawson, Griffin is very chill and relaxed for a GSD. His favorite toy is a round green rubber ball with legs. Griffin, your poster choice awaits you…

Dawson – My Mutt

I’ve been going through a German Shepherd phase of late. In the last week I’ve photographed no less than 4 GSDs or GSD mixes and had a past client request a giant 3×3 foot mounted print of their Shepherd. I love GSDs so this is not what I would consider a problem. Anyway, onto the star of the hour: Dawson.

Dawson is actually a Petfood Express employee and I’ve met him at their corporate offices on several occasions now. Dawson is a really mellow guy for a Shepherd and not the always worried about the state of the world like mine was. For his My Mutt poster we picked his backyard where he likes to lounge near the hydrangeas . So, cast your vote for the postershot. Nice job, Dawson!

Victor

I was doomed to be completely smitten with Victor before I even met him. First, he’s a senior dog and second he’s a German Shepherd. That he happens to be sweet and good natured made for the perfect trifecta. Victor, who’s one of the elder statesmen for German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California , came to my outdoor studio for a My Mutt poster shoot last week and I can’t tell you how nice it was to have a GSD in my yard again.
