The other morning I got to do two of my favorite things at the same time: hang out on a beach and hang out with e German Shepherd. Gino, a handsome black GS mix was recently adopted and his new family celebrated by making a donation to Rocket Dog Rescue and memorializing Gino with a My Mutt Poster at Pet Food Express. We decided to meet at Ocean Beach just a few blocks from Gino’s new home on a beautiful San Francisco spring morning. Warning…major, major cute puppy alert here. You’d think that when you’re around puppies a lot eventually the awwww-factor would diminish. Actually, it goes the other way. Last Friday was no exception when I was introduced to Jasper, an adorable muttly mix recently rescued through Rocket Dog. Jasper’s mom, Katherine Taylor, is a BodyTalk practitioner in San Francisco specializing in energy medicine for pets and people. I’ll tell you what: She’s got a whole lot of energy on her hands with young Jasper who had a sandy blast down on Ocean Beach for his very first professional photo shoot. Check him out..

There’s nothing quite like Fort Funston and Ocean Beach on a fall afternoon here in San Francisco — the light is that perfect California gold and it’s still warm enough for you to hit the beach without a jacket. I met Jasper, Mabel and their mom down there last Thursday for a donated session they bid on at a recent animal welfare fundraiser. Jasper’s a spry aussie shepherd mix and Mabel’s a pitbull mix. Both of them love to play — Mabel’s a ball girl while Jasper prefers frisbees. We had a great time and got some really cool shots of them at play. We also got what may be my single favorite Smiling Dog shot of the year — a classic pitbull grin.
