Annie, the latest My Mutt superstar for Pet Food Express is a beautiful pitbull mix rescued through Rocket Dog Rescue. We met last week at Fort Funston (a.k.a Dog Mecca) where she was the life of the party. As you’ll see in the shots below, she’s one of those dogs that just makes you smile. Pillsbury & Sigmond

I’m a sucker for dogs with big ears — the size tends to correspond to the bearer’s level of personality — and boy did I meet a dog over the weekend for whom this rule holds true. Pillsbury is a well-mannered, sleek and beautiful pitbull mix who lives in Alameda with his people and a tabby cat named Sigmond (though Pills and Sigmond live in separate parts of the house). Like most pitties I know, Pills is a giant lapdog when he’s not playing. His ears and eyes have me fairly convinced he’s mixed with some Pharaoh Hound but, regardless of bloodline, he’s at at the top of the pyramid in his forever home.

You gotta love a dog named Buddy — especially a puppy named Buddy. I met this cute little guy and his larger housemate, Raider, over in Livermore this week for a holiday session. Buddy’s the guy in antlers — Raider went with Santa. We ended up taking Buddy out for a little play session in the neighborhood park afterwards and found out he’s definitely a stick guy. He also came through with a classic pitbull grin shot that I was lucky enough to be there for. You go, Buddy.

Jasper & Mabel

There’s nothing quite like Fort Funston and Ocean Beach on a fall afternoon here in San Francisco — the light is that perfect California gold and it’s still warm enough for you to hit the beach without a jacket. I met Jasper, Mabel and their mom down there last Thursday for a donated session they bid on at a recent animal welfare fundraiser. Jasper’s a spry aussie shepherd mix and Mabel’s a pitbull mix. Both of them love to play — Mabel’s a ball girl while Jasper prefers frisbees. We had a great time and got some really cool shots of them at play. We also got what may be my single favorite Smiling Dog shot of the year — a classic pitbull grin.

Petunia

One of the best things about being a non-studio pet photographer is that I get to go to all sorts of cool, beautiful locations all over the San Francisco Bay area. Last week I met a new client named Petunia who lives down the coast off Highway 1 near Half Moon Bay. Petunia and her mom have access to some of the most scenic hikes in the area and we happened to hit one trail in particular where the Lupins were out in all their purple spring glory. Petunia came from the San Francisco SPCA a few years back and her mom says she’s a St Francis Wood Terrier. She’s a lot of fun and enjoys hiking, playing with other dogs and napping in sunbeams
