It’s fitting that a dog named Tinkerbell lives in Half Moon Bay. HMB is about as close to Never Never Land as you can get on this coast and I can’t imagine a better place to be a dog –lots of wide open spaces, lots of beaches and lots of critters to chase. Tink is the latest in a series of adopted pit bulls I’ve photographed for My Mutt posters done for BADRAP and I think this may be the toughest poster decision to date. Help us out and pick the Tink shot you like best.

Vick’s Dogs No More: Jonny Justice and Uba

One of the highlights of photographing so many beautiful BADRAP pit bulls for My Mutt posters these past few weeks has been getting to know a number of dogs rescued from Michael Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels in 2007. Last week I met Jonny Justice and Uba, now both adopted and living in loving homes in San Francisco, along with Jonny’s friend Lily, another pit bull. We went to Crissy field first for some beach shots and then headed back to Jonny’s place.

Let me just say that these guys are a ton of fun to be around. Jonny has near-constant grin and loves to play. He likes his quiet time too, though, and once a month he works with kids as part of Paws for Tale, a program where children gain confidence by reading aloud to dogs like Jonny. Uba seems a bit more reserved at first but has a serious vertical leap (both in and out of the tailgate) and definitely gives Jonny a run for his money (Uba’s mom told me he runs on a special treadmill at home)

It’s funny — when I photographed Kona ten days ago or so I was thinking about another dog named Kona that I photographed last year. I went back and checked and I did that shoot exactly one year prior to this one…to the day. What are the odds?

This year’s Kona is a beautiful grey pitbull with a classic pittie grin who loves fetching sticks, balls or anything else remotely throwable. She’s one of several BADRAP pitbulls going up on My Mutt posters in Pet Food Express stores throughout the SF Bay area. Check her out…especially the nifty little trick she can do with her tongue in the last shot.

Huey

In all the years I’ve lived in San Francisco I’ve never been to Glen Park Canyon and it’s almost in my backyard. That ended last week when I met Huey and his mom there for a morning My Mutt shoot. Huey is a handsome brindle and white pitbull rescued through Grateful Dog with a great smile and bright, engaged eyes. Frankly, he’s just a ton of fun to watch and be with and I don’t envy his mom trying to pick out the poster shot — he doesn’t really take a bad picture.

Buddy: A Boy and His Ball

Some pet names just fit perfectly and Buddy, a sweet little pitbull I photographed last weekend, is a case in point. Buddy is the kind of a guy you just want to hang out with. He likes sticking close and he’s a big foot sitter–resting his rump on your shoes, generally while holding one of his toys and grunting. What’s not to love? Enjoy your sneak peek, Buddy, and have a happy Thanksgiving.

When I found out I had a My Mutt assignment to photograph a dog named Zev Valentine I was, to say the least, intrigued. With a name like that he had a lot to live up to and boy did he ever exceed my expectations. Zev turned out to be beautiful brindle pitbull with love for life even bigger than his name. We went to Ft Funston (my destination of choice these days) and took advantage of the fall iceplants for background scenery.Zev spent the outing marking everything in sight, meeting and greeting lots of dogs, retrieving his wubba, and, believe it or not, climbing a tree.
