Happy New Year, all. I hope the holidays treated you well and you’re looking forward to 2012. I’m going to ease into things with a mix of old and new. Below you’ll find a visual round-up of my favorite shots from the past couple of weeks but I also want to drop a bit of a teaser for some changes coming on this blog in the extremely not-so-distant future.

Let’s just say that as a rule I don’t make New Years’ resolutions in my personal life but there’s a bit of a loophole when it comes to my business life. For 2012 I have a number of plans for Mark Rogers Photography but one of the big ones is to be a better blogger: more compelling, more consistent, more fun.

Ike, the handsome fellow below, is one of 7 San Francisco Sheriff’s Office K-9s I worked with a few months back to help raise awareness for the Cover Your K-9 fund which helps provide California K-9s like Ike with custom bullet-proof vests. Check him out.

I also have a blog programming note. Since I started blogging the photo of the day I’ve gotten some feedback that it would be more practical to provide a weekly summary on the blog since I already post the shots individually on Facebook. Great input, folks. So, that’s what I’ll be doing every Monday. Today’s list just covers the last three days but starting next Monday, I’ll post the week’s prior shots in a neat little package. Thanks for the input, folks and please let me know if you have any other ideas or requests

It’s been way too long since I photographed a puppy. I needed a fix and, last week, Bella delivered one. She’s a 16-week old pittie mix rescued through Rocket Dog and gives the term puppy-dog eyes new meaning. Let’s just say if you needed to pass a bill in Congress and brought her along you’d have a lot of extra votes on your hands.

Rufin & Ready

Cute puppies seem to be the theme of the week. On Tuesday I had a follow-up shoot with two adorable Yorkie puppies named Rufin (yes, one f) and Ready. We’d first met a couple of weeks ago right after Daylight Savings kicked in and ended up running out of light. We also decided that it would be best for the boys to get trimmed so we could see their eyes a little better. R&R showed up ready to play at my outdoor studio and, despite the cold and fog, we all had a good (and somewhat messy) time. Boys, I’ll see you again soon. Enjoy your sneak peak

Nothing can brighten your day more than rolling around in the grass with a cute puppy (is there any other kind?) On Sunday I had the chance to roll around with an adorable little Chihuahua-Dachshund mix named Olive who came to my outdoor studio for her first professonal pet photography session. She handled it like a complete and utter pro and I have a feeling this won’t be the last time she gets in front of a camera. Olive, I can’t wait to meet you again when you’re older.

You gotta love a dog named Buddy — especially a puppy named Buddy. I met this cute little guy and his larger housemate, Raider, over in Livermore this week for a holiday session. Buddy’s the guy in antlers — Raider went with Santa. We ended up taking Buddy out for a little play session in the neighborhood park afterwards and found out he’s definitely a stick guy. He also came through with a classic pitbull grin shot that I was lucky enough to be there for. You go, Buddy.
