It’s been a while since I photographed any bunnies so it was great to get a recent My Mutt assignment for two rabbits adopted through the Marin Humane Society. Honey Bunny and Trixie Belle like to hang out in a sunny corner of their home where they have a view a backyard that’s occasionally visited by a curious squirrel. One of their favorite toys is a wicker basket that they’ve converted into a play tube by chewing out the bottom–the other is pair of well-gnawed pink crocs. Innovative and fashion conscious. You don’t get much better than that.

Grumpy Bunny Redux – Grumpy No More

I finally had a chance to redeem myself last weekend and do a reshoot with Sterling – the bunny who wasn’t so happy to see me the last time. Fortunately, we met on a sunny morning this time instead of a rainy afternoon and Sterling was in much better form. In fact, she was so active I managed to get my first bunny action shot.

Regular readers of this blog may remember that Sterling is a rescue rabbit from Save a Bunny and that Sterling is going to be on a My Mutt poster at Pet Food Express. So, cast your vote and let us know which shot you like the most for that poster.

Fortunately, my run in with a grumpy bunny seems to have been a one-time thing. Etta, my latest Lepus, was an absolute doll. She’s an adorable little white bunny with the most delicate ears I’ve ever seen. She’s a Save a Bunny rescue destined for posterhood at Pet Food Express and I think we’re going to have a tough time picking a single shot. Chime in everyone, which one do you like?

I’ve photographed a lot of rabbits this year — more rabbits than cats as a matter of fact. Maybe I was just getting cocky but I actually thought I was starting to get a handle on them… at least until I ran into Sterling last weekend.

Sterling is lovely gray rabbit rescued through Save a Bunny who lives in a really cool loft in downtown San Francisco with a Portuguese Water Dog. The shoot started out fine and Sterling did some fairly cute poses with minimal intervention and coaxing. However, after about 10 minutes I could swear she was actually starting to scowl at me. By the end I fairly sure she was downright grumpy. Now, to be fair, it was a rainy afternoon, her mom did say that she preferred mornings and it’s entirely possible I’m being way to sensitive about the whole thing.

I don’t know. What does everyone else think? Evidence below?

Sterling, I’ll be happy to come back on a sunny day if you’d prefer….

The folks at Pet Food Express have been keeping my very occupied of late (thanks, guys) with My Mutt assignments. Interestingly enough, none of the recent ones have really been mutts and my new bunny buddy, Monet is the latest. He’s a harlequin mini rex who was rescued through Save a Bunny and he’s absolutely gorgeous. Check him out…
