Prince: A Pup in Bernal Heights

It’s been a while since I last worked with a German Shepherd or German Shepherd mix so Prince, a recent My Mutt poster model, was just what the doc ordered. Prince was adopted through Rocket Dog Rescue and we met on a foggy, cool afternoon at Bernal Heights park — so much for any city views. As you’ll see, Prince is a handsome lad and a natural in front of the camera. Sound off on which shot you like most for his poster.

Gino Hits Ocean Beach

The other morning I got to do two of my favorite things at the same time: hang out on a beach and hang out with e German Shepherd. Gino, a handsome black GS mix was recently adopted and his new family celebrated by making a donation to Rocket Dog Rescue and memorializing Gino with a My Mutt Poster at Pet Food Express. We decided to meet at Ocean Beach just a few blocks from Gino’s new home on a beautiful San Francisco spring morning. Olive

It’s been a while since I worked with a puppy so it was great to spend some time with cute little gal named Olive up in Novato last week. Olive was rescued through Rocket Dog Rescue and now lives with a maltese-poodle mix named Paco (along with some donkeys). It poured the day of the shoot so we kept things inside but managed to find a nicely lit room and a rug that complimented Olive’s coat and made do.

Maybe once the weather clears I’ll get a chance to visit Olive again, see how she’s growing into her paws and get some shots of her romping around outside.

The last time I worked with Mo’s mom it was on a My Mutt poster for her four bunnies. At a recent animal rescue event she mentioned to the good folks at Rocket Dog that she might be interested in adopting a dog and, lo and behold…Mo! What a find. He’s a sweet old Cocker Spaniel with a penchant for tennis balls and butt scratches. As you’ll see below, he’s already very attached to his new owner and is quite photogenic to boot. You go, Mo!

Trying to photograph two terrier mixes for a poster is like…? You fill in the blank. To be fair Cocoa and Pip’s owner, who rescued them through Rocket Dog said it would be a challenge but I thought, nah, it’ll be on my turf. No problem. As soon as I heard I’d be photographing a dog named Lola, of course the Kinks song immediately began playing over and over again in my head. We met up at Corona Heights dog park which has one of the best views of downtown San Francisco in the city (not a bad spot to hang out while your dog does their business). Annie, the latest My Mutt superstar for Pet Food Express is a beautiful pitbull mix rescued through Rocket Dog Rescue. We met last week at Fort Funston (a.k.a Dog Mecca) where she was the life of the party. As you’ll see in the shots below, she’s one of those dogs that just makes you smile. Coop

I’m a big fan of interesting pet names though, when I first heard about Coop I didn’t think much of it because I assumed it was short for Cooper. Not so. Apparently Coop was kept *cooped* up a lot before he was rescued through Rocket Dog and there you have it, a name with a little black humor to it.

Coop is a handsome Rhodesian Ridgeback mix (maybe with a little Kelpy or Pit thrown in) with bright eyes and an adorable flopping ear. He’s really into pine cones (see below), likes to sit in chairs and cocks his legs in a fairly unique way when he’s in a down. All in all, Coop will definitely be a My Mutt star when his poster shows up at a Pet Food Express near you.

Warning…major, major cute puppy alert here. You’d think that when you’re around puppies a lot eventually the awwww-factor would diminish. Actually, it goes the other way. Last Friday was no exception when I was introduced to Jasper, an adorable muttly mix recently rescued through Rocket Dog. Jasper’s mom, Katherine Taylor, is a BodyTalk practitioner in San Francisco specializing in energy medicine for pets and people. I’ll tell you what: She’s got a whole lot of energy on her hands with young Jasper who had a sandy blast down on Ocean Beach for his very first professional photo shoot. Check him out..
