Alameda Pet Photography: Island Style in the Bay Area

Meet Mark Rogers

Alameda pet photography comes with a special sort of magic—the golden island light, gentle bay breezes and a chill lifestyle that’s relaxed even by Bay area standards. I’m Mark Rogers and I love photographing dogs and cats in Alameda. There’s a ton of scenic options: lovely Crown Memorial Beach, tall trees and green grass at Washington Park and gorgeous harbor sunsets to name a few. Alameda’s mix of coastal charm and small-town feel makes it a dream backdrop for everything from action shots to soulful portraits.

We can wander shoreline trails with epic bay views, pick a spot along the marina where the light hits just right or go for interesting backgrounds shot against the town’s diverse architecture. Or, if your dog’s idea of a good time is a lazy lounge in the grass, we’ll capture that too—because every personality shines differently.

Sessions are relaxed, fun, and all about celebrating your pet exactly as they are. By the end, they’ll have had a blast, and you’ll have images that bring a smile every time you see them.

Alameda Pet Photography Reviews

Folks in Alameda and the East Bay love working with me. See what they have to say about Mark Rogers Photography!

Corey – Alameda CA

Mark has done about five photo shoots for our family and each time it has been a joy. I can’t believe the patience he has for getting the perfect t shot.

Most recently, he risked bodily harm by getting into the dirt (and broken glass and who knows what else) for some photos of our 2 little dogs at Alameda Point.

Suffice to say, if it’s a professional pet portrait we want, Mark’s the man we’ll call.

OMG Mark is SO GOOD!! I contacted Mark for a photo session to capture my senior dog who’s battling DM. Mark was so accommodating and good with us. It never felt awkward. He is a really good pet photographer and trust me, I’ve done my research and he really is exceptional. I would recommend his services wholeheartedly

Mark is a fantastic photographer, and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to get high-quality pet portraits. My dog tends to be nervous around strangers, but Mark was great with him. He perfectly captured my dog’s personality, and I’m so happy with the results!

Alameda Pet Photo Location Ideas

There’s a number of spots I visit regularly for Alameda dog and pet photography sessions (see those below) but I’m always eager to try out new ones — especially if you have the inside scoop as a local.

Crown Memorial State Beach

Broad sandy stretches, calm bay waters and lots of room to run define Crown Memorial State Beach. Evening light here is perfection for action shots or gold-tinged portraits.

Shoreline Park

What’s not to love with sweeping San Francisco views and open lawns? Shoreline has a great blend of scenery suitable for action shots or epic portraits.

Jean Sweeney Open Space Park

Shady trees and green space make this a great spot for natural, playful photos. Another plus: it’s big enough for shy pups to find their own space.

Alameda Point Waterfront

Industrial charm meets bay views. Shipping cranes, old piers and weathered texture add a unique, urban-meets-coastal background for memorable pet portraits.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s quite a few great options on The Island. For a beach shoot there’s Crown Memorial State Beach. I also really like Crab Cove for a mix of greenery, sand and views. If an urban feel is more to your liking there’s a ton of different architecture downtown and in surrounding neighborhoods thats great for backgrounds.

My session fees for Bay Area locations outside San Francisco are $340 for up to two dogs and two people. If you’d rather come to SF and do a studio or outdoor shoot in the city it’s $290. The session fee locks in your shoot date and covers planning time and shoot time. Wall art, table top pieces and digital negative sets are bought separately a few weeks after the shoot at your reveal session..

You bet but I’d limit it to one person, maybe two if you have several dogs. We don’t want a lot of extra people there to watch — even a well-trained pet can get distracted with an audience. I’d also leave young kids at home unless they’re in some of the photos.

Welcome to the world of pet photography! I’ve got endless patience and tricks to get their attention. That said, if they’re completely overwhelmed we can reschedule. Sometimes pets have bad days and other times it takes a couple of visits for them to get comfortable with me and my gear.

If it rains or gets way too hot or foggy we’ll reschedule. Same with a pet who falls ill. We wait until they feel better.
