San Mateo Pet Photography: Genuine Moments preserved

Bringing your pet’s personality to life with vibrant photography in San Mateo’s stunning coastal and park settings

Meet Your Pet Photographer, Mark Rogers

Hello, I’m Mark Rogers, a pet photographer with a passion for capturing the unique personalities of animals. I’m lucky enough to work with pets and their families all over the Bay Area, and San Mateo is one of my favorite places for creating unforgettable photos.

San Mateo’s diverse landscapes—from the serene beauty of Coyote Point Recreation Area to the urban oasis of Central Park—provide the perfect canvas for showcasing your pet’s individuality. Whether it’s a playful adventure on the waterfront, a relaxed stroll through a quiet neighborhood, or a cozy session at home, I’ll tailor the experience to suit your pet’s personality and your vision.

Your session can take place wherever feels right for you and your pet. Maybe it’s a favorite trail at Laurelwood Park, a nearby beach in Pacifica or Half Moon Bay, or a sunlit backyard. If you’d prefer a more intimate setting, my San Francisco studio is also available. My approach is all about capturing natural, joyful moments that reflect the love and connection you share with your pet.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping pet parents turn everyday moments into cherished memories. Let’s work together to create something fun, meaningful, and full of life—just like your pet. Reach out today, and let’s start planning your San Mateo pet photography session!

Mark was AWESOME! He came to photograph our two very uncooperative dogs — a beagle & a golden retriever. Somehow, he was able to capture the best pictures I have of my boys! I treasure them!

From scenic waterfront parks to quiet nature trails, there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops. While I have a few favorite go-to spots I’m always excited to discover new locations that are meaningful to you and your pet. Central Park

With its lush gardens, open lawns, and shaded pathways, San Mateo Central Park is a true urban oasis and ideal spot for photographing dogs. The park’s mix of natural scenery and charming features, like the rose garden’s classic gazebo, provides plenty of opportunities to capture your pet’s personality in a picturesque environment.

Coyote Point

Coyote Point offers a mix of bayside views, grassy fields, and winding trails—perfect for pet photography. With the bay as a backdrop and plenty of open space for your pet to explore, it’s an ideal spot to capture natural, joyful moments.

Laurelwood Park

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, this hidden gem of a park is perfect for pet photography. Whether it’s a playful romp on the lawn or walk along the winding trails this charming spot offers a beautiful, low-key backdrop for unforgettable photos.

Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay is perfect for pet photography. Looking for epic coastal views and beaches? HMB has them in abundance. It’s a relatively short drive from San Mateo on route 92 and worth the time. I’d recommend it on weekday afternoons and evenings, though, because traffic on sunny weekends can be problematic.

Frequently Asked Questions

San Mateo has so many great spots for pet photography! Coyote Point Recreation Area is perfect for coastal views and open spaces, while Central Park offers beautiful greenery and shaded paths. If you’re looking for something more urban, we can explore downtown San Mateo for colorful backdrops and unique settings. And if your pet is most comfortable at home, we can always do the session in your backyard or living room.

A little preparation goes a long way! Make sure your pet is well-rested and hasn’t had a meal right before their shoot — I often use treats to motivate and draw looks. If they’re groomed or bathed, schedule that a day or two before the shoot so they look their best.

A pet photography session in San Mateo is $340, which includes a travel fee to cover gas, tolls, and extra travel time. If you prefer to schedule your session in San Francisco, the cost is $290. This fee covers the full experience, from planning to the photoshoot itself. Prints and digital images are sold separately.

Not at all! While dogs are my most popular subjects, I also love photographing cats, rabbits, birds, and other small pets. If it’s a pet, I’m happy to work with them. I also offer family sessions that include pets, so if you’d like to be in the photos with your furry (or scaly or feathery) friend, we can absolutely make that happen.

Sessions typically last around two hours, though this can vary depending on your pet’s comfort level. I never rush the process—we take our time to ensure your pet feels at ease and has fun. Sometimes we finish a little sooner, and other times we might need a bit longer to capture the perfect shot

Absolutely! I love capturing the bond between pets and their people. Whether it’s a candid moment of you playing together or a posed family portrait, we can include you in the photos. Just let me know ahead of time so we can plan the shots.

Yes! Most sessions include up to two pets and two people. If you have more pets (or family members) you’d like to include, there’s an additional fee of $50 per subject. I’ve worked with large groups of animals before, so don’t worry—we’ll make it work!

I schedule sessions on weekdays and reserve one weekend day—usually Saturdays—for shoots. Sundays are also an option with enough advance notice. Weekend slots tend to fill up quickly, so if you’re flexible, we can often schedule your session sooner on a weekday. Once we lock in a date, we’ll chat about your location preferences and pick the perfect spot for your session.

No problem! Many pets aren’t leash-trained, and that’s okay. We can work in a secure, enclosed area, or I can use a long lead that can be edited out of the final photos. Safety and comfort are my top priorities, so we’ll find a solution that works for your pet.
